The path of memories is the first and at the same time the last release from Thou Shall Fall, a band founded on 1999 in Venezuela. An offering of raw and obscure Black Metal.

The short intro is a calm and contemplative ambient passage, which is suddenly unsettled by the rough Destiny's illness. At the first instance, drums hammers with pressure and a bit machine-like. The atmosphere abruptly becomes gloomy and obscure, what lies also in the sound of the guitar which is raw and distorted. As the first verse starts it gets rhythmic and however more quietly and henceforth the distorted & screeching vocals provides a morbid mood. Faster and slower passages alternate while a constantly dark atmosphere is maintained, as guitars, being in the background, are playing subtle melodies. To the past… is a constantly slow song, whereby a leaden atmosphere is achieved, which is going through several nuances later on, because of the above all shrill guitar is getting slightly clearer and more distinct and so melancholic melodies win more expressiveness. The closing Outro is less contemplative than the Intro. It’s a short, melancholic passage, with a non exactly definable sound, summarizing appropriately the wretched and oppressed tension of the preceding tracks.

The Path of Memories is a very interesting opus, because both songs Destiny's illness and To the past... have a strongly different structure. So is the obsessed played drumming on Destiny’s Illness with its harsh outbreaks comparable to Elysian Blaze’s "Beneath Silent Faces". To the past... on the other hand is more calm and reflective. Thou Shall Fall surrender well done music, but it's a pity, that the MCD is rather short and will remain the only release.

The gestation of "The Path of Memories" has been quite long, mCD of the mysterious Thou Shall Fall, a band that comes from Venezuela, with this unique work in her account which was published posthumous at their dissolution. The album was written in 2001, recorded in 2004 and then, only released one year after, Limited to 500 copies, under the aegis of Vacío Abismal Records.

A very dark project, although the geographical origin, this South American band offer us an alienating album and misanthropic in its minimalism. Depressive Black Metal would be the label that better fits with the proposal of the quartet: we find ourselves confronted by compositions permeated with a leaden & claustrophobic aura as demonstrated on the thin and minimalist booklet. The production is quite chaotic and a little intelligible but that gives to the compositions an even more obscure & despaired mood. It starts with the Intro, that immerses us in a rarefied and distressing atmosphere that burst out with all the uproar of the successive "Destiny’s Illness", where an alienating keyboards’ carpet is caused by the altercation between harrowing guitars and the suffered vocals of Aklezh. Followed then with "To the Past…" which slows down a lot the tempo in its advance, been almost lethargic and piercing.

The album is closed with a short atmospheric outro. Erred for the insufficient length of the album that consist in practice, how said, of two single tracks more the intro and an outro for a total of little more of 12 minutes. Although that, it is worthwhile to immerse itself in the dark and extinguished world that Thou Shall Fall succeeded to forge. 7/10
