...The music is brutal, dissonant and intelligent; definitely refreshing to hear as bands like this don’t appear frequently. There is a definite hardcore element to the music but I strongly advise not letting this put you off until you’ve had the chance to give it a proper listen. I wouldn’t class this band as deathcore at all, merely by comparison to the typical bands in the genre playing simple and unoriginal death metal with spin kicking breakdowns. Proteus do not follow this trend at all, opting for originality over scene appeal, and with this I think it’s safe to say that they have reinstated my faith that hardcore styled influence can still be good...
