The debut full length by Act of god, hailing from Perm, these guys opened the gates of greatness and perfection by playing orchestral blackened death metal, fronted by operatic female vocals with evil blasphemous touches. Thatís at least what could resume this album in few words for those who are inpatient to read the details.
Alright, letís start off with the content of this sweet torment. Talking about the production, itís almost perfect for fair truth; everything is well mixed, and each instrument can be heard clearly, makes the sound of this album so clean and easy to hear. Passing out to the album content, this is so different symphonic black death than you used to hear, actually this is a new dimension of extreme metal based synth and piano, consisting of 9 tracks, this compilation is mainly supported by operatic female vocals, but regardless this fact, it still one of the most evilest blackened death metal releases I ever heard.
Looking at the musicianship, the guitars play a minor role, but still they leave a great effect on the album. The guitarist, Ilya Vesnin, delivers memorable riffs that are much technical used, and supported by awesome hunting solos throughout the songs. Curving to the drums work, which are actually kicking ass using extremely fast beats with no limits throughout the release, in addition to the fine percussion, and though myself I still wonder if a human is able to make such enormous blasts non-stop during the whole album, itís just impressive. Finally to mention the bass role, it mostly adjusts the brutal sound, and leaves a good impact among the successful process of the musicianship here. Letís move now to the main features of this full length; the keyboards here, overpower the other previous instruments, and it plays the biggest role. Irina Vesnina offers awesome catchy orchestrations, and dark atmospheric tunes, which give a great overall devilish feeling to the sound. The aforesaid combination is supported by operatic talented vocals, and this singer knows how to use her deep peaceful voice in term of the evil sound produced, and it fits perfectly with the music. Suddenly from time to time, a raspy horrorful screams and growls occur in to surprise the listener off the clean and beautiful singing of Veronica.
This album is flawless, and so the lyrics do! They are perfectly written, and mainly talk about anti-Christianity, hatred towards religion and god; they are so blasphemous and evil in general.
In final words, The Place of Worship is unique piece of art regardless what genre it is, this is should be a classic stored in the glorious Russian music and art libraries. Highly recommended for everyone who admires original music, otherwise fans of symphonic Black Death will appreciate it. Do yourself a favor and order your copy now, Iím pretty confident you will never regret buying this masterpiece.
