Pure pagan black metal of an absolutely irreverent, blasphemous nature. Harsh, unrepentant, hateful anti-Christian sentiment from these brutal Brazilian demons.

Review:
"Profanation" is, actually, the latest release of this Brazilian Black Metal horde. The trajectory of Ocultan began back in ’94; their first work "Eternus Malus" demo was released in June ’96, and began their quite extensive discography. After 7 releases, 2 demos and 5 albums, they decide to unleash this last blasphemous opus under Pazuzu Records… Musically Ocultan delivers an ultra Blasphemous Black Metal, played at full speed, where the drummer, Count Imperium, shows all his abilities, with a flawless and consistent performance. The guitar lines (merit of Lady Of Blood and Daimoth) deliver a strident sound with a quite melodic approach (especially in the lead guitar work) creating epic, still infernal passages of destruction and cruelty. The vocals of Daimoth are a Black Metal standard, with some mid to high toned violent shrieks, spitting blasphemies in its most obscure form. Lyrically Ocultan deals with extreme blasphemies, mixed with necrophilia and all possible kind of profane topics; titles like "Ejaculating In The Nazarene’s Face", "Necrophilia With The Nazarene’s Bitches" and "Sodomizing The Whore, The Virgin Mary" will give you a slight idea of what this album is all about. At first listening you can distinguish some strong traces of Dark Funeral, especially in some guitar lines, and some hints of Immortal’s epic atmospheres, but played in some less chaotic, more melodic, but still hellish way… "Profanation" is a highly recommendable work, its weak point resides in the monotonous of the lyrical composition, all the rest; the musical composition, the whole production and the artwork (the front cover, the back cover and the inlay art… are pure sacrilege in its most pure visual form) are totally fucking great… [burningblack] |
