Between 2003 and 2005 Exulcerate went through more line up changes than Iron Maiden has in their entire career. Alright, that is an exaggeration, but these guys have found a way to put out a catchy album with former Putrilage vocalist Aaron Mendiola as the backbone and vocalist. Mendiola is surrounded by the talents of Dennis Sanders (Ex-Mortality) on drums, Angel Tarin on guitar, Dave Gonzalez on guitar, and Matt Hernandez on bass. As a unit these guys spin the listener through 13 tracks and 47 minutes worth of eardrum degradation.

The most obvious thing about this album is its Old-School Death Metal sound that takes me back to the foreboding days of Scott Burns as producer in the mid to late 80’s. Yet, this band will shovel you across the face with a twisted blaze of modern day brutality. The sound is clear and all the instruments are audible. The double low tuned guitars are crisp and tight with ripping solos and blazing riffs, that are accentuated by tempo changes going from speedy to the pace of an 18 wheeler mauling its way up a hill. The bass pops and slaps quickly keeping the sickness together, and the drums are faster than a $20 blowjob. Aaron Mendiola’ voice is reminiscent of Immolations Ross Dolan, but deeper and more throaty with a hint of stomach acid. Complimenting the lead vox are the backup Grindcore style shouts/shrieks emanating from Sanders and Hernandez, that are prominent in each song. In an album with almost 48 minutes of music each song has enough twists to keep any listener’s chiropractor on speed dial.

Making the music more nauseating is the art work of Mike Hrubovkec. Almost nothing is better than an image of sodomized whores hacked above the knee and facially skinned for a cannibal feeding frenzy. I thought highly enough of the pure vulgarity of the album cover that I bought the shirt along with the disc. It will have a nice dressy appeal when I wear it to a baby shower.

Yeah friends, this is some purely disturbing material that should be heard as often as possible. Play it at a retard party after you’ve spiked the punch with vodka, play it as an intro to the vagina monologues, or play it while watching an execution on the internet. JUST FUCKING BUY IT AND PLAY IT LOUD… SUPPORT THE METAL SCENE
