Surprise! Finally an American band that claims to play black metal and actually does, in stead of playing death metal wrapped in a black metal outfit. The music is somewhere between primitive black metal and old school death. To put it in other words; somewhere between old Death/Mantas, German thrash from the eighties and the cold, primitive Norwegian black metal bands, yet up to modern standards. It is obvious that this band has its roots in the 80?s metal. I just can?t come up with a single fitting name to compare it to.

What to expect? On their horses Bloodthrone rides into battle on the anthem of the band. Ferocious howling metal guitar arrangements and brutal riffs, Magnus? screaming vocals filled with pure hate, simple drumming and a kind of music that fits in perfectly between raw black metal and the great brutal riffs of old death. Metal, with the black metal having the obvious upper hand. The sound is not great, yet fits in perfectly with this kind of black metal. It somehow reminds me of the atmosphere of Possessed mixed with War (yet not so fast), recorded by a raw black metal band? The songs have the right dark atmosphere, the compositions are alternating yet ?catchy?, almost no keyboards (only on the outro). Strong release when you consider the fact hat these guys come from New Jersey and definitely a signal that black metal can be played too across the ocean! Check out this self proclaimed 'Unholy Speed War Machine'! Personal favorite ''Mayhem Upon The Heavens''. And then to think that these recordings are from 2000!
