Most of this CD is covers of classic black metal songs.
Ashen Light’s original songs blend nicely in with the covers.
The first track starts with a brutal black metal riff, and then turns into a fast paced black metal song, with keyboards ambiently in the background. The vocals somewhat lower black metal screams for most of the cd. The production is excellent for a black metal album. There are a few acoustic bridges in the original songs.
The Immortal cover is a more melodic version of Blashyrkh (Mighty Ravendark).
The third track is probably the slowest one on the album. Not nearly as catchy and aggressive as the rest of the album, it serves as a sort of an interlude.
The Hordes of Nebula cover is pretty straight forward, probably more so then any other cover on this CD. Nothing spectacular. The Mayhem cover is pretty good, though once again nothing to brag about in terms of originality.
The second Darkthrone cover is once again not too different from the original, except the vocals don’t quite fit the song. Not cold enough. The keyboards follow the guitar on that track, and that adds a false melodic feeling. After the music fades out, there is a minute or so of ambient nature noises.
The last track is an instrumental, though music-wise it does not differ much from other Ashen Light (original) songs, except its much more epic.
