The website of Ambivalence offers me the opportunity to pick either an English or a Russian segment. The band hails from Ukraine, that’s why. But since I don’t have Milla Jojovich in my inner circle of friends, I was forced to choose the English part. But little more surprise could have been in store for me, I’m being navigated to the Russian segment anyway. Luckily there are tons of people that happen to speak Russian, so there will still be a market but for you and me it might be a bit tricky. So I’m a little bit ambiguous about that. I promise you that this was my final joke for this article.

As we speak the band is nine years old and they have produced two demos, one promo and two CDs, before they got to this ode to plastic surgery, entitled ‘Silicone Magic’. ‘Silicone Magic’, with a fairly cool cover art of a young tight faced babe with the body of a wrinkled elderly woman underneath it, dates back to May of this year. So it took a while before a marketing dude found its way to the biggest metal organ of the Benelux. From day one the band has been alert to never become an ordinary death metal band, by using technical aptitude, psychedelic influences and even jazzy improvisation, mixed with rude violence and pig-squeal grindcore. All together not as surprising as they claim it to be, but I’m entertained very well.
