Written by Mateilkrist [Metal Archives]
Alright, let me first start off with this: I am in no way a fan of techno or "house" music. I've yet to meet an intellectual fan of this genre, all of them being future less wastes of space sucking on their pacifiers. The music seems monotonous with very little potential on its own. Fucking terrible. That being said, I can say (somewhat shamefully) this band's experimentation with techno elements has elevated this album to become one of my favorites of all time.
From beginning to end, the album projects a futuristic, almost extra-terrestrial tone. Most "true" black metallers will tell you the techno elements are over the top and take away from the metal elements, but the band's goal here was to go beyond that of previously treaded territory and try something new. People nowadays rate music too harshly, which is understandable. However, few people are willing to credit anyone for trying something out of the ordinary.
Bard Faust acts as an invisible fifth member on this album, writing a few of the song lyrics, and even coming up with the title concept. Attila's vocals are growling and moody, which blends in nicely with the mechanical assault. The title tracks kicks off with industrial speed, which is kept throughout the album with a few slow points here and there. Nattefrost's appearance on "The Alienation of a Blackened Heart" is short-lived at just under 3 min, but still welcomed none the least.
In all music, people will either love something or despise it. The same goes for metal, even though we try to distance ourselves from the MTV sheeople. Aborym have indeed distanced themselves from the rest. This is at least worth downloading for a listen; who knows, you might enjoy it as something out of the ordinary.
